With respect to the Thursday KRXQ broadcast:
Will this become a referendum on free speech vs. the safety of children?
Many people think that their freedom of speech rights are a "no-holds barred" arena. They often express themselves thus:
"Where do we go from here? Make a list of "approved" subjects
and a list of "forbidden" ones. Oh, wait, isn't that censorship"?
I would offer from my perspective as a parent who listened to the broadcast, that inciting violence against kids should present a pretty clear line for most rational, thinking adults. Hatred (yeah I know a very strong word) and violence against gay and transkids is a real and present danger. Those of you who are concerned about the trampling of your First Amendment rights, is this the kind of world you are willing to accept, does the unfettered exercise of your “freedom of speech" trump nearly everything else? Does it preclude each of you from demonstrating decency, appropriateness and a genuine concern for the safety of children struggling with a mystifying and distressing social and biological phenomenon?
More to the point, would you stand idly by while your children were being attacked?
I wouldn’t . . .
